Sunday 19 January
South 12th Street, Richmond - 1:30pm - 2 Hours
Richmond Photography Group

The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures.

In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

My husband saw a video on Instagram of someone using marbles in ink rolling around on a paper. There was an empty frame on top to keep marbles in. I tried it and loved the results. It is random lines that make different designs. This one I used a black brush pen to add more darks in spaces. It really made the paper pop!

Have wanted to paint for many years and with retirement started with Oil Paint in April 2023. I wanted to try Acrylics for its fast drying time. This is my Fourth Acrylic painting. I want to emphasize the three primary colors when I can as they are foundational colors. I?m inspired by the beauty of nature and strive to capture its amazing scenes that play out before us day by day.

Title or Location: Live Wedding Painting
Back in 2016 I began getting requests to do live wedding paintings. I paint the wedding as I see it (per the couple's request) and whether it's the first dance, first kiss, saying the vows, walking down the aisle, etc., I paint it on scene in 4-6 hours, take it home and clean it up, and deliver it usually (usually is the operative word) within 10-14 days.

This painting was inspired by a picture one of my clients had taken when she was sitting on the James River. I used acrylic paint with a resin glaze over it including stones and wood in it so you could feel the textures of the outside .

Title or Location: Lighting of the Cressets
If you are a local or even a visitor in the late fall, you know this street scene in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. One of my favorite times of the year is to be there in person when they light these burning baskets of wood to illuminate the night on Duke of Gloucester Street. I can?t image what it was like in the not-too-distant past, before street lights and electricity were the norm! Just being there during the late fall season takes me to a simpler time in history. 12" x 9", This is pain

Cody was a much loved rescue and brought joy to his family. I felt using soft pastels was the best medium to use and managed to convey his character, which the client loved.

This image was hand drawn and oil painted on a 12x16 canvas sheet. It is in memory of a baby Squirrel that myself and my teenage daughter raised years ago. We called him Icarus.I was Veterinarian Technician at the time and my daughter actually grew up to be a Veterinarian. Such laughs we had with that baby Squirrel!

My husband Brenton and I took off just before Christmas to the mountains of the Great Dividing Range, following the Snowy River to the ocean. I took a thousand photos, but wanted to paint one of the stunning memory images I bought with me when I returned home. I love to travel with my husband and paint wherever we go.
